Camp Fire's Awareness Team originated in 1988 as an initiative of the Pensacola Junior League. In 1997, the Gulf Wind Council of Camp Fire Inc. became the host agency for this unique program. The team provides a straight-forward approach to many of the issues facing teenagers today. The Awareness Team is comprised of teenagers of various backgrounds who are selected from high schools throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Its goal is to provide leadership, education and support when teens are less likely to turn to adults for answers. Each team member contracts with Camp Fire USA to refrain from sexual activity and the use of drugs and alcohol, setting an example for their peers.
